Réaltóga recognises that children coming from school need to come into a very relaxed, comfortable and less structured environment.
We believe that the afterschool setting should be an environment where the children can be themselves, develop friendships, discover and follow their own interests and a place where they feel cared for and cared about.
Réaltóga’s afterschool service recognises the huge potential of the afterschool age child. Réaltóga believes that children have a basic human right to play and that play is central to the well-being and development of children. It recognises too, that children have a natural instinct to learn, explore and discover and need to be given the time and space and appropriate atmosphere to do just that.
We acknowledge that individual children learn in different ways and we try to provide the time and the environment to celebrate the child’s individuality by providing opportunities to suit his or her particular likes, interests and talents.
Réaltóga’s Afterschool service believes in taking a child centred and holistic approach that strives to provide daily routines and experiences which are fun and encourage the physical social, emotional, intellectual, creative, spiritual, moral, cultural and linguistic development of the children who attend the service.
We believe that homework should be supported and facilitated but should not be the core activity of the Afterschool Care Service.
We believe that the afterschool children should have opportunities to become actively involved in the planning of the activities that take place and these activities should take place in the service and in the local community.
Our goal is for all children to develop high self esteem, to reach their individual potential and to always feel included, loved and successful.
